²⁶ But ^(A)an angel of the Lord spoke to ^(B)Philip, saying, “Get ready and go ^[a]south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to ^(C)Gaza.” (^[b]This is a desert road.) ²⁷ So he got ready and went; and ^[c](D)there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of ^[d]Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he ^(E)had come to Jerusalem to worship, ²⁸ and he was returning and sitting in his ^[e]chariot, and was reading Isaiah the prophet. ²⁹ Then ^(F)the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this ^[f]chariot.” ³⁰ Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” ³¹ And he said, “Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. ³² Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this:

¹⁵ Then ^(A)the kings of the earth and the eminent people, and the commanders and the wealthy and the strong, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and they *^(B)said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the ^[a]sight of Him ^(C)who sits on the throne, and from the ^(D)wrath of the Lamb;

¹³ And I heard ^(A)every created thing which is in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth, or on the sea, and all the things in them, saying,

⁶ And I saw ^[a]between the throne (with the four living creatures) and ^(A)the elders a ^(B)Lamb standing, as if ^(C)slaughtered, having seven ^(D)horns and ^(E)seven eyes, which are ^[b](F)the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

²³ And the city ^(A)has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for ^(B)the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the ^(C)Lamb.

⁴ Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and ^(A)sin is lawlessness.

⁹ and may be found in Him, not having ^(A)a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, ^(B)the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
